Fred’s Austrian Sauerkraut

Fred's Sauerkraut is awesome. It is to be served hot.  Tastes awesome served with really good sausages or burgers.  Sauerkraut is also very low in calories.

3/4 TBSP Olive Oil

1 med onion – finely chopped

2 cloves or garlic – finely chopped

1 tbsp – Caraway Seeds

1 -2 cups chopped Kielbasa – I like to use Turkey Kielbasa

1 Bottle of Sauerkraut – drained, rinsed with cold water and chopped into 1 inch lengths ( I use my food processor on pulse)

1 apple – chopped

1 tsp paprika

1 cup white wine

1 – 2 cups homemade chicken broth ( depending on how runny you like it)

salt and pepper to taste

Some like to put a dollop of sour cream once served.

Fry onions, garlic, caraway seeds in oil for 2 to 3 minutes.

Add kielbasa, sauerkraut, apples, paprika, wine and broth and mix well.

Bring to a boil, cover and simmer to 2 to 3 hours until soft.

Add salt and pepper to taste
